She looks down on Garmisch-Partenkirchen in an almost exciting way – and anyone who has ever experienced this view at a beautiful sunset will never forget the sight of the wildly jagged and deep red glowing summit. We are talking about the Partenkirchner Dreitorspitze (2633m), which is located in the eastern part of the Wetterstein Mountains. This is our destination for todays tour.
Our starting point for the scenically very varied round trip is the hiking car park in Reindlau in the Leutaschtal at 6 o'clock in the morning. The early start guarantees enough time to enjoy the breathtaking summit view and also a stop at the Meilerhütte. In the coolness of the morning we first follow a gently rising forest path, which brings us to the Puittal. On this we quickly gain altitude on a small path and reach the first rest and viewpoint with the Puitegg. Afterwards, the terrain clearly covers, the view can wander around in the open terrain and the steep walls of the Öfelekopf and the Gehrenspitze get clearly visible . With the morning sun in the back, it goes on the southern slopes through mountain pine alleys and rugged terrain steeply up to the Söllerpass. This marks the transition between the Puittal and the Leutascher Platt.
Here the landscape changes abruptly from a lovely valley with lush green meadows and pine fields to a barren moon-like karst landscape – the ideal place to strengthen us for the onward journey. In the slight up and down it goes through simple terrain, with our goal the Partenkirchner Dreitorspitze constantly in mind. Once at the foot of the wall, you have to put your helmet on your head, strap around your waist and put on the via ferrata set correctly.
Although the Hermann von Barth via ferrata is easy (difficulty A),nevertheless it leads steeply and partially exposed to the summit. Once there, it's time to take a deep breath and then ENJOY! The fantastic view extends from the snow-capped peaks of the main Alpine ridge over the Zugspitze, the Ammer and Ester Mountains to Lake Starnberg. And Garmisch-Partenkirchen lies also at your feet...
On the descent you can hardly get past the rustic Meilerhütte. Back in the Platt follows a short counter-climb and you sit on one of the best panoramic terraces of the northern Limestone Alps with the well-deserved snack and delicious cool drinks. With a little bit of luck you can catch a glimpse of the climbers in the musterstein south face, while you are on the next descent or simply enjoy the view and relax. On the way forward, no more difficulties are to be expected, except for the length and some concentration.
Back at the parking lot, the hiking boots are exchanged for comfortable shoes. Well prepared in this way, you can then, e.g. in the Hubertushof, improve today's calorie balance and start the journey home calmly and satisfied.
