Are you interested in climbing mountains where passages with wire ropes or even via ferrata lead you to the summit? Or have you already had some experience in via ferrata walking, but are still unsure whether you can really do a tour on your own? Then this via ferrata course with an ascent of the Alpspitze is just the thing for you! On the two intensive and educational days you will learn the complete knowledge to be able to climb via ferratas independently.
We meet at the Alpspitzbahn ticket office and, after a brief equipment check, take the first train towards Osterfelderkopf. We spend the first part of the day in an alpine atmosphere below the Alpspitze with an introduction to material science and the correct use of equipment. Afterwards we walk a small practice via ferrata and learn how to use the via ferrata set correctly. In addition, we are made aware of the special features and possible dangers when climbing via ferratas. During the afternoon, we can practice many different scenarios and respond specifically to individual questions. Then we descend the short path to the beautifully located Kreuzeckhaus and look forward to a hearty evening in the mountains. After dinner, we discuss important theories about via ferrata walking and get an introduction to weather science. Then we plan our tour to the Alpspitze tomorrow.
Today the Alpspitze with its 2628 meters height is our daily goal. In order to be able to apply and deepen our acquired knowledge practically, we choose the ascent via Alpspitz-Ferrata - a comparatively simple via ferrata of category A / B. At first it is relatively steep, secured on a wire rope and impressively upwards on foot pins. The then somewhat flatter part invites you to take a look at the Höllental with the Höllentalferner and the Zugspitze. We finally reach the edge of the northwest ridge and now have only a few but exciting meters to the summit cross of the Alpspitze. From there we have a breathtaking view of the Werdenfelser Land and enjoy our snack in the sun.
The descent takes place via the beautiful east ridge and the north face via which we reach the mountain station after about 1.5 hours and take the train down to the valley.
