The route is the goal! That's the motto of this mountain hiking tour to the Zugspitze (2962m) across the Wetterstein Mountains. With its varied mountain paths, the Höllentalklamm and the beautiful mountain huts, this 4-day tour is an extremely entertaining but unforgettable experience.
We start from the hiking parking lot in Hammersbach in the direction of Höllentalklamm and after a short time pass the Höllentaleingangshütte. We continue through the wild and impressive gorge towards Höllentalangerhütte. Once there, we take an extensive break and enjoy the distant view up to the Höllental. Our onward journey takes us past the miners' houses and we finally reach today's destination via the Hupfleitenjoch - the Kreuzeckhaus.
On this day we want to get a good bit closer to our destination - the Zugspitze - and therefore start the impressive route into the Reintal. We pass the Stuibenhütte and finally descend to the Bockhütte, where we enjoy a coffee and a good cake. Now our goal for the day - the Reintalangerhütte - is not far away. Along the Partnach we now go west without a big climb through the beautiful valley until we finally meet the hut. Here we can hang the tired feet in the cooling river and let the soul really dangle.
Today's goal is the summit of the Zugspitze. To do this, we first climb steeply onto the Zugspitzplatt at a slow pace until we finally reach the Knorhütte. Since we also spend the night here tonight, we first make a material depot here, take another sip of apple spritzer and continue on to the Zugspitze. Once at the Sonnalpin, we check the weather conditions and the condition of our legs again and if both are still okay, we also walk the last 1.5 hours on the rope-insured southern flank of the Zugspitze. As an alternative, the last 400m can also be overcome with the cable car. Once at the top, we enjoy the distant view "on the roof of Germany" and take summit photos before we start the descent towards Knorrhütte again after these very different impressions on the Zugspitze.
The last stage of our tour is by no means only to be seen as a descent, but leads us once again through the really beautiful landscape of the Wetterstein Mountains. First we cross the Zugspitzplatt and finally we reach the "Gatterl" - the border crossing between Germany and Austria. From here we always march towards Ehrwald via beautiful mountain paths and finally reach the train station. We then take the train back to Hammersbach.
