The Seebener via ferrata near Ehrwald leads to a magnificent scenery with the Zugspitze in the background and a foam waterfall to the left hand through the steep Seebenwand. It is the perfect via ferrata for all ambitious mountaineers, especially in the hot summer months. From exposed wall passages to an airy overhang, everything is there. At the exit of the 200 demanding meters of altitude you climb to a plateau with the idyllic Seebensee and the Seebenalm. We meet on this day in the morning at the valley station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn. From there we climb comfortably in about an hour to the entrance. First we follow a driveway, flat along the stream and then branch off onto a hiking trail that leads through the forest to the entrance of the via ferrata.
We always have the Seebenwand in view during the ascent. After we have put on our equipment at the entrance - consisting of helmet, climbing harness and via ferrata set - we start climbing. On the first few meters, the Seeben via ferrata shows us that the next 200 meters of altitude will be a strenuous, alpine undertaking. The steep climbing areas, with three passages in difficulty level D, at the upper end of the via ferrata rating scale, demand a lot from us. In between, we can shake out our arms, while resting on short flatter wall steps and enjoy the view. On the top part we have to exert ourselfs again to overcome a plate and the racy overhang. After the airy crossing on the last meters, the exit is reached and the via ferrata is finished.
On the idyllic plateau with the Seebensee, the Seebenalm you are invited to stop for a moment, to eat and relax after the hours in the steep wall. Over the plateau and the Ehrwlader Alm we descend in about 1.5 hours to the parking lot.
