The basic alpine mountaineering course part 2 is suitable for all people who already have a certain amount of experience in mountaineering and would like to intensify or refresh their knowledge. In addition to mountain rescue in rock and on glaciers, alpine first aid, technical skills are also taught, which enable the safe undertaking of medium and difficult mountain tours. Another focus is the improvement of personal skills in the areas of belay techniques, climbing ability and securing of passages with risk of falling.
In doing so, we learn how to place mobile safety devices as well as how to place normal hooks. A small highlight in this training section is the correct drilling and setting of express anchors, as they are used in alpine climbing tours. In this context, the mountain guide will also emphasise the importance of the correct construction of a stance.
Time and again, our training tours also take us to the Höllentalferner. There, the topic of crevasse rescue, which was touched in the basic mountaineering course part 1, is also dealt with again in detail so that everyone can master this at the end of the course. Overall, a not inconsiderable part of this course will be devoted to the topic of mountain rescue. While bandages, splints, stopping heavy bleeding, correct positioning, stable lateral position, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the correct placement of an emergency call and the instruction of a helicopter are practiced in alpine first aid, we dedicate ourselves to the following topics in mountain rescue: Construction of a rope carrier seat, lowering an injured but capable person from a climb, duo abseiling with an injured person, makeshift removal, etc.
For successful participation in the 5-day basic alpine course, you receive a certificate from the Alpinschule Garmisch on the content taught. The course is also ideally suited to prepare for the VDBS mountain guide course, UIMLA mountain guide or the DAV mountaineering trainer.
