In the footsteps of King Ludwig - The Schachenschloss (1866m) over the Kälbersteig
The Bavarian fairytale king Ludwig used it as a hunting lodge and retreat - today it is famous for its spectacular architecture and location. We are talking about the royal castle on Schachen or simply “Schachenschloss” (1866m).
We starts in the morning at the parking lot of the Olympic Stadium in Partenkirchen. The first few meters to the Partnachklamm are ideal for warming up. Then the rain jacket should worn, because the path through the deep gorge is scenic, but also wet. Shortly after exiting the gorge, the Kälbersteig begins. It leads us over small, steep turns, then again over flatter sections to the old road, on which the King was once driven to his castle. We have done most of the vertical meters already. The remaining ones are distributed evenly on the road, so that you can enjoy the enchanting view of the Schachenschloss, the Reintal and the Bavarian Oberland. When we arrive at the castle, we first stop for a snack in the Schachenhaus. Strengthened, we then take part in the guided tour through the Schachenschloss, which has one or two surprises in store. Still enchanted by the new impressions, we continue to the nearby pagoda, King Ludwig's viewpoint.
Enthroned almost 1000 meters above the Reintal, fabulous breathtaking views open up from this point. On the left the climbing paradise of the Oberreintal, at the very bottom the glittering Partnach, above the peaks of the Hochblassen and the Alpspitze. After we have torn away from this sight, we descent into the wild Oberreintal, then in tight turns to the Partnach into the Reintal. We follow the Partnach on a pleasant forest path until we are back in front of the Partnachklamm. Happy and satisfied, we enjoy the last few meters of our tour - knowing´that there are excellent refreshment stops in the valley, where what we have experienced can be discussed in detail again.
After booking the course, each participant will receive a detailed map of how to get there with parking options, an equipment checklist and further information about the tour.
