Have you already gained some experience on ski tours and are dreaming of higher and more challenging ski tours and ski mountaineering? In this course we will refine your skiing technique and your knowledge of avalanches and avalanche safety equipment. On this multi-day course, you will make the transition from easy to more challenging ski tours and learn all the important techniques for your first easy ski tours.
From our unique base, the Amberger Hütte, countless peaks over 3000 metres and slopes of varying difficulty in glaciated and unglaciated terrain await us, providing the perfect location for an instructive advanced course. Your mountain guide will teach you the most important basics for high-altitude ski tours, from crevasse rescue, anchoring in the snow, the correct track system and alpine dangers to roping up on the glacier.
Programme:
Day 1: We meet at the agreed meeting point and after an equipment check, we set off for the Amberger Hütte with our ski touring equipment. Once we arrive at the hut, we will deal intensively with orientation in winter and avalanche assessment, before focussing on intensive avalanche search in the afternoon. Here we will intensify your knowledge and focus above all on digging out and transporting down. We will also practise using ice axes and walking with crampons. We will end the evening with tour planning for the next day.
Ascent: 600 metres, 6 km, approx. 2 Hours
Day 2: Strengthened by breakfast, we start our ski tour in unglaciated terrain towards Atterkarjöchle at around 2970 metres. On the ski tour, we will refine the skiing techniques of tip and kick turns, discuss the right time to put on crampons and transfer the correct track layout from the map to the terrain. On the descent to the hut, we will go through the first points for ski mountaineering, such as roping up on the glacier and descending in a rope team. We will then learn the most important basics for ski mountaineering - from the right equipment to knot tying and crevasse rescue. In the evening, we will deal with group tactics and track setting in glaciated areas and plan our tour for the next day.
Ascent: 850 metres, approx. 3.5 Hours
Day 3: Today we set off on our first high-altitude ski tour. Depending on the conditions, we have several easy to moderately difficult summit destinations to choose from, such as Hinterer Daunkopf or Kuhscheibenspitz. Depending on our choice of tour, we will set up a ski depot so that we can ascend to the summit on foot. At the summit, we can marvel at the view of the countless mountain peaks for 3000 metres before descending back to the hut to continue practising crevasse rescue and first aid in the afternoon. In the evening we plan our final tour for our last day of the course.
Ascent: approx. 1100 metres, approx. 4-5 hours, descent: approx. 2 Hours
Day 4: Depending on the conditions, we will climb one of the surrounding peaks above 3000 metres in glaciated terrain today, such as the Schrankkogel, in order to apply all the skills learnt during the course on a medium-difficulty ski tour. After a break at the Amberger Hütte, we take our luggage and ski the last turns into the valley.
Ascent: 1200 metres, approx. 4 hours, descent: 2000 metres and approx. 3 Hours
