The gentle, snow-covered mountain ridges and panoramic, easy-to-climb peaks around the Meißner Haus offer a wonderful winter experience for the whole family and a perfect base for snowshoe hikes away from the crowds. Whether alone or with friends or family, on this snowshoe weekend we can experience the silence and nature in the mountains.
With snowshoes, we set off on beautiful circular hikes or summit destinations with views of Innsbruck, can discover animal tracks in the snow and learn efficient and energy-saving hiking in the snow. You will also learn how to plan your own tour and learn about the risk of avalanches. Another focus is on how to use the life-saving avalanche Equipment.
Programme:
Day 1: After a welcome and equipment check, we start our ascent together along the Viggarbach stream to our overnight destination. On the way, we can practise our first walking techniques so that we arrive at the Meißner Haus without wasting energy. After checking in and a break, we will discuss the different avalanche situations and practise using our emergency equipment (avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel). In the evening, we will have a theory session and plan our tour for the next day together.
Day 2: After breakfast, we set off on our planned snowshoe hike. On our way we can discover animal tracks in the snow and enjoy the winter landscape over Innsbruck. In the terrain, we will refine the different walking techniques and incorporate another avalanche transceiver unit. Orientation in wintry terrain is also on the agenda today. In the evening, we enjoy the peace and quiet in the beautiful Viggartal valley by the fireplace at the Meissner Hütte and plan our hike for the next day.
Day 3: today we will apply all the techniques and tips we have learnt on a final snowshoe hike together, so that in future you can be out and about in winter independently, with the necessary know-how and well-equipped. After our tour, we will stop off at the Meißner Haus before hiking back down into the valley on snowshoes. Unfortunately, we finish our weekend in the valley and take home a lot of input for our next tours.
